If you use any form of a digital graphics creator program, or to be more specific, any Adobe program, this might be useful to you.

Yesterday I was working in Photoshop trying to finish that tablet drawing I was telling you guys about, when my laptop decided to be an ass and crash/shut down on me. Once I restarted, the document in which I was working on had became corrupt. Right now, it looks like a red and black mess, and all the layers are gone. I did some searching, and tried a couple of things, but to no avail. Then I tried finding the Photoshop .tmp file, which stores itself on your computer in the case of a crash, but I never found it. Then I read an article that said that it couldn't be fixed, and that the file is basically dead.

Thankfully though, my Norton Security Suite saved my ass, because in the backup of my C:/ I had the file and Photoshop successfully opened it, but all the progress that I had done in the last couple of days is basically gone forever. But I guess I'm not too worried, because most of it is still there (the important stuff).

Bottom line for this story is make sure you save, but not just that. Save multiple versions of your non-exported file, weather it's .svg, .ai, .psd, or anything else. What I'm going to do now is as I'm working on something, every time I save, I'm not going to click "save", but "save as" and rename the file to "example 1a", "example 1b", "example 2a", "example 2b". Every time you save, save your document twice; that's where the a, b part comes in, and the numbers are for each time you save, so if something goes wrong, you still have an extra copy to work with. Once your done with your document and are ready to export it, you should have basically a timeline of your progress. Once you feel confident enough to delete your multiple saved files, go ahead, but leave your final product. To be extra safe, I would copy your finalized document at least 3 times before exporting one of them.
